about

This track came out of my hang with the fabulous band Los Texmaniacs at the Blackpot festival in Louisiana, where I learned my first few chords on the bajo sexto...
I don't play accordion, so I fronted this tune with my 1929 Kamaka Pineapple soprano ukulele...an interesting combo.

lyrics

Time passes strangely as he read beneath the covers
About the ungodly apathy attributed to others
I remember one more thing that Uncle Jorge said
Always try to wind up in the center of the bed...

He fell off the wagon on a thimblefull of 'shine
Spent some quality time with a bottle of agave wine
Think you can swim a mile when your boat sinks offshore?
Uncle Jorge said your ticker can't take those things no more

He said keep doing it wrong until you like that bump
Life is simply simple when you plow around the stump
I'm turning red hot memories into bowls of creamed wheat...
My heart goes out to the man I used to be...

Jorge was always one to take a shine to the seasons
He loved every single day for a myriad of reasons
Loved the snow and the rain as much as a hot summer day
Fed the hummers in the winter so they'd always stay and stay

Careful what you eat, and watch what you spill
Always take care of that unpaid bill
Look for your opening and choose it well
When the right time comes it'll ring like a bell

He said keep doing it wrong until you like that bump
Life is simply simple when you plow around the stump
I'm turning red hot memories into bowls of creamed wheat...
My heart goes out to the man I used to be...
